Snail Feeder is inspired by a historical event in relation to the law of unintended consequences. In 1936, the giant African snail was migrated to Hawaii as their big beautiful shells had attracted human interest. They soon became major pests throughout Hawaii. This led to the Hawaii State Department of Agriculture intervening by introducing a carnivorous snail called the rosy wolf snail. However this snail not only hunted the giant African snail but all the local species leading to a rise in endangered snails.
